Anatomy Espresso Cups

Dutch artist Joep van Lieshout has designed a set of cups depicting "the four systems of the human body involved in drinking coffee". I'm not sure I'd want to be reminded of my kidneys while the caffeine is taking effect, but they would make for interesting after-dinner discussion.

Necromance

Come October my desires turn to bones and creepy crawly things. The perfect source of such ghoulish gear is Necromance.  If you can't make it to their Hollywood store, you can browse their select items online. Some of my favorites: the real mouse hand necklace (shown left), turtle vertebrae ring, the small bat in a glass frame, x-rays of human bones, and the mounted spider web. There are also items decorated with old botanical prints, mounted insects and other biological bits.

And if you are shopping for Halloween gear, they also sell lots of items with skulls and spiders and funereal accessories. Awesome.

Mad scientist earring set

Etsy seller polarity sells a cute set of earrings that proclaim your status as a mad scientist:
Each earring has 2 magnetic interchangeable lids - both with mad scientist designs (is there any other kind of scientist?).

Each earring is approx 1 1/4" and the hang is approx. 1 3/4". There is a little bit of weight to them (not too much) and if you are used to larger earrings you will love them!

You can even use your earring as a little locket and place a little picture inside! It is packaged in a cute little tin, perfect for gift giving or storage.
A steal for only $12.

Stained Glass Brains

Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor is perhaps best known for talking about experiencing her own stroke from a neuroanatomist's point of view. Less well known is that Dr. Taylor also creates colorful anatomically correct stained glass brains. She's in the process of creating a line of bags and t-shirts using that brain as a logo. Watch her site for details!

Custom Anatomical Jewelry

Jewelry artist Margaux Lange made a a pair of custom necklaces for a woman working on her PhD in neuroscience. She says "we worked together to come up with the perfect anatomical/organ focused pieces (inspired by my "Like Breathing" necklace with the lungs.) " They are really both unique and quite appropriate for the budding biologist. Lange's jewelery uses bits and pieces from Barbie dolls to create interesting arrangements of lips, eyes, arms and more. If you like her style, check out her Etsy shop. Her web site has more about her custom made jewelry.

Gold Brain Optical Mouse

Swiss company Pat Says Now sells this funky gold brain optical mouse. I love their description:
I know everything. No one’s as clever as me. And I never forget anything. From now on all the brainiacs of this world can show everyone in the office how smart they are. Also makes an ideal gift for know-it-alls.
It's a gift that says "you have a lovely brain".

BODIES: The Exhibition Gear

BODIES: The Exhibition features preserved human bodies in active poses with the skin removed so that the muscles and skeleton are visible. If it isn't coming to a science-center near you, you can still share the exhibit with your anatomy-loving girl geek by buying her some of their gear. They sell t-shirts, a companion book, and my favorite, a set of magnets. The human body is so lovely!
